Texas burns while Obama looks the other way
May 4, 2011
Washington, D.C. – Late Tuesday night President Obama denied Governor Rick Perry's April 16th request for a federal Major Disaster Declaration to provide much needed assistance with the ongoing wildfire's across Texas. Since November, Texas has seen more than 9,000 fires burn more than 2.2 million acres and damage more than 400 homes.
"Unfortunately there is an assault on Texas, not just from the devastating fires wreaking havoc in more than 200 counties; it is an assault from President Obama himself. There are few things the Federal Government has an obligation to do, protecting the American people is one of them. Ignoring an entire state that has seen more acreage burn than Rhode Island and Delaware have acreage combined is unconscionable.
While we appreciate FEMA providing help in the form of 22 FMAG's, an FMAG is akin to giving a homeowner a squirt gun, when his house is burning to the ground, instead of sending the fire department.
The facts are simple: Texas is on fire, from border to border and President Obama is looking the other way. Next week, when the Campaigner-in-Chief is in Austin for a fundraiser, perhaps he will find time to see the devastation."
