WASHINGTON — Texas lawmakers praised Monday the U.S. military and CIA actions that killed Osama bin Laden, but cautioned that the war on terror remains a threat to Americans at home and abroad.

“Let this serve as a grave reminder to all those who wish to do our nation harm: If you murder Americas, you will be hunted, you will be found and you will be brought to justice,” said Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

U.S. military forces had been hunting bin Laden since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people, and his death Sunday was seen as justice for the families who lost loved ones.

And it was justice, too, for those who lost soldiers in the dual wars in Afghanistan and Iraq over the past decade, with Republican and Democratic lawmakers praising U.S. troops and military personnel.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women in our armed forces who have been relentlessly pursuing bin Laden and made this day possible,” said Rep. Francisco Canseco, R-San Antonio.
