Senate panel approves Missions expansion bill

WASHINGTON – A bill that would allow the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park to expand cleared a legislative hurdle Thursday when a Senate committee approved the legislation and sent it to the full chamber for consideration.

The bill put forward by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, on behalf of officials in Bexar and Wilson counties, would allow up to 151 acres to be added to the Missions Park.

Lawmakers on the Senate Energy and Commerce Committee voted unanimously to approve the bill and send it to the full Senate for action.

A companion bill was filed recently in the House by Rep. Francisco Canseco, R-San Antonio.
