Press Conference: Border Sheriffs join Congressman Canseco at State Capitol
June 6, 2011
WASHINGTON D.C.– Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23), who represents almost 800 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, will be holding a press conference on the steps of the Texas Capitol to discuss border security legislation he recently introduced, the Southwest Cross-border Violence Recognition Act (H.R. 2124). This legislation will create a federal definition of cross-border violence – which currently does not exist – and require its use in assessing border security. “Violence is spilling over the border from Mexico into the United States and endangering the lives and property of Americans who live along the border, despite the claims made by Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano and President Obama,” said Congressman Canseco. “I am introducing the Southwest Cross-border Violence Recognition Act in order to force the federal government to acknowledge the reality faced by my constituents every day who live and work along the border.” Congressman Canseco will also be joined by several Border Sheriffs to provide first-hand accounts of the violence that is coming across the border from Mexico.
