Congressman Canseco's Statement on Texas Independence Day

March 1, 2012

Washington, DC – Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco, a former small business owner and lifelong Texan, represents the 23rd District of Texas. He issued the following statement commemorating Texas Independence Day:

“176 years ago, today, George Childress presented the Texas Declaration of Independence to those gathered at Washington-on-the-Brazos. It was at the Convention of 1836 where this single document embodied the pride and spirit of every Texan who sought freedom from tyranny. As we celebrate Texas Independence Day, I am very thankful to the many brave people who sacrificed so much for freedom. Whether you are serving our country overseas or simply enjoying one of the many natural wonders of the Lone Star State, the spirit of independence still lives in the hearts and minds of every Texan.

Today we remember all of the brave men and women who stood by their fellow Texans in the name of liberty and freedom. Join me in celebrating the proud heritage that has been passed down to us. I wish you and your family a happy Texas Independence Day and I hope that you will unite with me in continuing to carry on the proud heritage of the great State of Texas,” Congressman Canseco concluded.
