Congressman Canseco's Statement on the November Jobs Report
Washington, DC – Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in reaction to the Department of Labor’s announcement that for the month of November the unemployment rate was 8.6%:
“Today we got some welcome news that maybe the economy is starting to head in the right direction, as the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level since March 2009. However, this announcement is not cause for us, as a nation, to begin giving ourselves a pat on the back. Over 13 million Americans are still unemployed, and the unemployment rate is still above the 8% level that the Obama Administration claimed would not be exceeded if we passed the $1 trillion-plus ‘stimulus’ bill,” said Congressman Canseco.
“We still have a long way to go towards getting this economy and job creation to where I’d like to see it, and where I know the American people would like to see it. There is still a great deal of uncertainty in the economy faced by job creators, especially because President Obama and his liberal allies in Washington still continue to call for even higher taxes to be imposed on American families and job creators. To really get this economy going and creating jobs, it’s time for President Obama to get off the campaign trail and persuade Washington liberals in the United States Senate led by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to get off the sidelines and begin considering the more than 20 bipartisan jobs bills passed by the House of Representatives that continue collecting dust as the lay untouched at the door of the United States Senate,” concluded Congressman Canseco.
Today, the Department of Labor announced that in November the unemployment rate fell to 8.6% and that 13.3 million Americans are jobless.
