Congressman Canseco's Statement on New Jobs Report
January 7, 2011
“If Washington will just get out of the way…”
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco, a former small businessman and a member of the House Financial Services Committee, released the following statement in reaction to today’s jobs report released by the Department of Labor for the month of December:
“After spending the past year speaking with hundreds of Texans throughout the 23rd District of Texas, I got a very clear message - get our economy back on track and create jobs,” said Congressman Canseco. “We simply have not yet seen the necessary economic growth or sustained long term job creation needed to put Americans back to work.”
“Over the last two years Washington Democrats have created an environment of uncertainty for small businesses with their jobs-killing policies such as the government take-over of health care, bailouts, and threats of new and higher taxes. These policies have eroded the confidence of Americans to start new businesses or expand current ones to create jobs.”
“As a former small businessman, I have no doubt that if Washington will just get out of the way and let American small businesses and job creators do what they do best, our economy will turn around and robust job creation will occur.”
Today, the Department of Labor announced the December unemployment rate at 9.4%. This marks the 20th straight month that the unemployment rate has been above 9%.
