Congressman Canseco's Statement on judge's attempt at censoring graduation speech at High School
June 3, 2011
WASHINGTON D.C.Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23) released the following statement in reaction to Chief U.S. District Judge Fred Biery’s order prohibiting Medina Valley Independent School District from allowing public prayer at their high school graduation ceremony:
"The Chief Judge’s decision is nothing more than a reckless assault on religious liberty and an oppressive restriction on free speech. Our Founding Fathers enshrined the protection of religious expression in our nation’s Constitution, not a protection from religious expression. I pray Chief Judge Biery’s decision is overturned by the Fifth Circuit."
