Congressman Canseco's Statement on House Republican Meeting with President Obama

June 1, 2011

WASHINGTON D.C.– Earlier today, Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23) attended today’s meeting between the House Republican Conference and President Obama at the White House to discuss the spending-driven debt crisis facing the United States.

“Texans sent me to Congress to rein in the out-of-control government spending and put our nation back on a sustainable fiscal path. More debt means more uncertainty, and more uncertainty means fewer jobs,” Canseco stated.  “I was looking forward to a discussion with President Obama about a plan that would solve our debt crisis, create jobs, and prevent our children and grandchildren from being buried under a mountain of debt.  President Obama did not present a plan, instead he appears wedded to continuing the same borrow and spend policies that have gotten us into this debt crisis in the first place.  I hope President Obama will listen to the message from the American people - stop spending money we don’t have and cut up the credit card,” Canseco concluded.
