Congressman Canseco's Statement on the February Jobs Report

March 9, 2012

Washington DC - Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23), a former small businessman and member of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in reaction to the Department of Labor’s February 2012 jobs report:

“Any time we get a jobs report that shows jobs were created, that’s positive news. However, we have to put this bit of good news in perspective with the larger picture. That larger picture is that too many Americans are still without a job and the unemployment rate is still too high. Looking at the facts, President Obama’s economic policies of more spending, more taxes, and more government have failed. Despite a trillion dollar stimulus bill that the Obama Administration said would keep unemployment below 8%, we’ve now experienced 37 straight months where the unemployment rate has been above 8%. There are still almost 13 million Americans without a job, and the percentage of Americans who are the “long-term unemployed” continues to top 40%. There’s no denying the facts, which show our nation is experiencing the worst period of sustained high unemployment since the Great Depression,” said Congressman Canseco.

“President Obama knows his policies have failed, that’s why he’s turned to the politics of envy and division and tried to find someone else to blame. However, the American people don’t want the same tired Washington blame game, they want results. That’s why the House of Representatives has passed almost 30 jobs bills as part of our Plan for America’s Job Creators. Many of these bills have passed the House on a bipartisan basis, but have been neglected by the United States Senate because the only solutions Senator Harry Reid and his fellow liberals that control the United States Senate will accept are those containing more spending, massive, jobs-crushing tax increases, and more government – the same failed policies of President Obama. It’s time for Senator Harry Reid and his fellow liberals in the United States Senate to put politics aside and put the jobs for the American people first by taking up the common sense, bipartisan jobs bills passed by the House of Representatives,” Congressman Canseco concluded.
