Congressman Canseco visits Uvalde, Talks Job Creation with Local Businesses
August 8, 2012
Uvalde, TX - Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23), a former small business owner and proud representative of the 23rd District of Texas, visited with local business owners and residents of Uvalde on Monday:
“One of the most important ways I stay accountable to the people of the 23rd District of Texas is by traveling to communities throughout the district and talking with constituents firsthand about their needs and concerns. On Monday, I had the pleasure of spending time in Uvalde and talking with local businesses and residents there,” said Congressman Canseco.
Congressman Canseco’s visit to Uvalde included several meetings with small businesses. An overarching theme of the visits with Uvalde small business owners was that Obamacare and burdensome Washington regulations have made it virtually impossible for small businesses to expand and hire new employees. “As a former small business owner, I understand the challenges that face small businesses, and I firmly believe that over-regulation coming out of Washington should not be the reason that entrepreneurs fail to establish small businesses or expand existing ones. The burdens of over-regulation threaten the American Dream, and I am fighting to protect small businesses and those wanting to start their own business from unnecessary regulation. That’s why I recently voted for the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act, a package of bills that will put the brakes on new major regulations until our economy is back on track and we can reform the broken regulatory system.” Congressman Canseco’s visits with small businesses included stops at Griffith Ford, Sanford Waterworks, DKM Enterprises, Uvalde Industrial Supply, and Oasis Outback.
“The small businesses that I visited with in Uvalde, just like the numerous other small businesses throughout the 23rd District that I have visited with, told me that we need to get the economy turned around and creating jobs, and that to do so we need to get Washington out of the way. Given that we’ve experienced 42 straight months where the unemployment rate has been above 8%, it’s critical that we ensure that small business owners can expand and invest in their businesses to create jobs,” said Congressman Canseco. “I always enjoy the opportunity to meet with the constituents of the 23rd District of Texas. It allows me to take their common-sense feedback with me to the House of Representatives as we work on solutions to get our nation and economy turned around,” concluded Congressman Canseco.
