Canseco Statement on Supreme Court Decisions to Hear Challenge to President's Health Care Law
Washington D.C. – Congressman Francisco "Quico" Canseco (TX-23), a strong proponent of repealing President Obama's health care law, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision to hear the case challenging the constitutionality of President Obama's health care law:
"I am extremely pleased that the Supreme Court has decided to hear a case challenging the constitutionality of President Obama's health care law. The American people spoke loudly against the health care law when it was jammed through Congress by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the last Congress. I've held numerous town halls across the 23rd District of Texas over the past 11 months, and the overwhelming message I've received from my constituents is that while we need to improve the quality and affordability of health care, a government takeover of health care that empowers Washington bureaucrats - instead of patients and doctors - is not the solution. Not only do many of my constituents oppose this law, they believe it violates the principles upon which our nation was founded and is unconstitutional," said Congressman Canseco.
"One of my first actions this Congress was to vote to repeal President Obama's health care law. Unfortunately, this effort was stopped by Senator Harry Reid in the United States Senate. As this case is heard, I look forward to continuing my efforts to repeal this law and replace it with real reform that will lower costs and improve quality by increasing competition and eliminating frivolous litigation costs," Congressman Canseco concluded.
Congressman Canseco was one of 105 Members of Congress that signed onto an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to hear this case, and is a cosponsor of the Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Act (H.R. 2).
