Congressman Canseco visits Ozona, Talks Jobs with Local Businesses and Elected Officials
August 10, 2012
Ozona, TX - Congressman Francisco “Quico” Canseco (TX-23), a former small business owner and strong supporter of keeping taxes low, visited with local business owners and local elected officials in Ozona on Tuesday.
Congressman Canseco’s visit to Ozona included several meetings with small businesses, including Triple C Hardware and the Hitchin' Post Steakhouse. The overall message from small business owners that Congressman Canseco met with was that Obamacare and burdensome Washington regulations have made it virtually impossible for small businesses to expand and hire new employees. “As a former small business owner, I understand the challenges that face small businesses, and I firmly believe that over-regulation coming out of Washington should not be the reason that entrepreneurs fail to establish small businesses or expand existing ones. The burdens of over-regulation threaten the American Dream, and I am fighting to protect small businesses and those wanting to start their own business from unnecessary regulation. That’s why I recently voted for the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act, a package of bills that will put the brakes on new major regulations until our economy is back on track and we can reform the broken regulatory system.”
Ozona small business owners, as well as local leaders like Crockett County Judge Deaton, also discussed the impact of Obamacare, the challenges it presents for small businesses and its impact on the health care of Americans, particularly in rural areas. “Obamacare is bad for both the economy and the health care of Americans. Obamacare is a government takeover of health care that puts Washington bureaucrats in charge of making decisions that you and your doctor should make. Furthermore, it cuts over half a trillion dollars from Medicare to pay for other spending, jeopardizing seniors’ access to health care. In rural areas, access to health care will be made even more difficult as the government takeover causes physicians and other health care professionals to stop practicing or severely curtail the number of patients they see. Obamacare is bad for our economy because of all of the mandates and tax increases. It creates uncertainty for small businesses and has left many small business owners unsure of how they will pay the new costs associated with complying with the law," said Canseco.
In addition to concerns about Obamacare, Congressman Canseco heard how the Dodd-Frank financial regulation bill and Washington’s out-of-control spending and debt accumulation are negatively impacting local businesses’ ability to spur the economy and create jobs. "When I visited Triple C Hardware, I heard from the owners how it has gotten harder to get the capital they need to expand their business and hire more employees because of the over-regulation arising from the Dodd-Frank financial regulation bill,” said Canseco. Canseco also heard concerns about the Death Tax during his visit to Ozona. “I heard quite a bit about how the Death Tax negatively affects family farmers and ranchers, particularly how it prevents them from passing along the farm or ranch intact to future generations. I understand the challenges this tax creates for these local businesses and families and that's why I'm fighting to repeal this unfair tax and ensure that Americans can continue the tradition of passing along the fruits of their labor to future generations without interference from the federal government.,” said Canseco.
“I always enjoy the opportunity to meet with the constituents of the 23rd District of Texas. It allows me to take their common-sense feedback with me to the House of Representatives as we work on solutions to get our nation and economy turned around,” concluded Congressman Canseco.
